While I agree with the chaos, uncertainty, unpredictability, indeterminacy, and indifference of the universe, there is a kind of order to it all. Not a total order, certainly, but a comprehensive partial ordering of almost all events and actions. In science, the burden of the proof lies with whoever makes the claim. Atheists carry the burden of proof to demonstrate the non-existence of deity. Theist carry the burden of proof to demonstrate the existence of deity. A Deity that is defined as totally unknowable, immeasurable, contradictory, etc is indefinite and can not be evaluated scientifically one way or another. Some would call such conjectures or definitions “Not Even Wrong” which is to say that a “Yes or No.” answer is not appropriate for them. Hence, I identify as a gnostic nontheist in general. If your definition of God is as fundamentally unknowable, I can’t help you and I won’t argue with you. You exist beyond argument. If your definition of deity is definite, we can talk about the many permutations that a theory and form of God might take; I hope you bring your A game because almost all commonly accepted definitions of deity have been refuted beyond reasonable doubt.Personally, I’m willing to entertain pantheistic arguments of an indifferent Deus ex Machina. If there is a god, it’s concerns are on scales almost incomprehensible to humanity. When all is said and done, our species is not as remarkable as we like to think it is and has been here for no more than a minuscule fraction of the history of the universe.
